I arrived in British Columbia yesterday. Lyssa looks great and seems quite active!
In their living room is a big hot-tub sort of thing which will be used for the birth.
I had a pleasant trip up, and the sunset ferry ride from Vancouver was magical.
In front of the ferry building I got to talking to this 80 year-old woman named Doreen Neu. She helped me navigate the long passages leading to the different ferries, and we chatted while waiting for the ferry to arrive. Best of all, Doreen called Lyssa for me, as my mobile does not work in Canada.
If you are not Hodges of my generation, or Mom, this last paragraph will be meaningless to you. It turned out that Doreen is a member of a Swedish choir, with her sister. She takes the ferry into Vancouver every week to rehearse with them, staying overnight with her sister. I started asking her about Swedish Christmas carols, and she knew Nu Är det Jul Igen, Nar Juldag Morgen Glimmar, and several others, but she had never heard of Staffansvisan, which is my absolute favorite. I took down her address and plan to copy Staffansvisan out of the Swedish songbook at Campus Dr. and send it to her.
Love to all,
Lennie
