Hi all,
Today's photos are all taken in the interior of Lyssa's and Mike's house, because I just felt like staying put when they went on an afternoon hike. (They walked quite a ways, but circled the regional park parking lot so that they were never that far from the parking lot.) I finished the first of three flannel receiving blankets, In the evening we had a great time watching Blazing Saddles.
Morning coffee with Lyssa If you look carefully, you can see that I finally was successful in enticing Lyssa's 14 year old Russian Blue cat Leo to sit in my lap.
After I got up, I gave Leo to Lyssa. (It took as long to get him off of my lap as it did to get him on it!) She doesn't usually let him lie on top of her pregnant stomach because of discomfort, but this time she did.
We had a visit from Lyssa and Mike's young friend Wendy, who is a soon-to-be single mom of her very cute 7-month old Willie. Mike got back with his part-time dog Shamus after his Sunday morning working at his little pizza making warehouse, and Lyssa made us a nice lunch of fried eggs, greens, chili and cornbread.
Wendy went with Lyssa and Mike on their hike in a near-by regional park. They had Mike's part-time dog Shamus with them and they had a good time, a good two-hour hike but never getting that far from the parking lot.
It felt really good to me just to be alone for awhile. To sit in their quiet house, to take that shower that I'd been about to take when young Wendy arrived, have a nap, and then sit there with a glass of wine (it was 4 P.M. by then) and work on the receiving blanket I was making, out of two yards of nice cotton flannel sewn together. Mike always has a nice selection of music on the I-tunes player, compilations he assembles himself.
I finished it that evening while we were watching Blazing Saddles. Nancy made me some of these type of receiving blankets for me when our kids were born. I used them for all three babies, and then later they made great cleaning cloths. I brought two more pieces of flannel and I hope I finish two more.
Lyssa's sewing machine is set up in the living room, but it's kind of nice to just sit and do it by hand.
She made us a great dinner of dal cooked with broth made from beef bones, and greens on basmati/wild rice blend. Then, as she does every week, she made lunches for Mike to take to work, each containing rice and beans and vegetables, which he can augment with some of the pizza fixings when he warms it up.
She says he's never been as healthy as he has been since she started feeding him. It's been good for me also, because she brings us each our plate or bowl, so it's three small meals a day and no other food lying about to snack on.
Love, Lennie
